You can create the bot by plugging it into its base and connecting it to your home Wi Fi network. The Neato app will guide you through the initial setup (linking the D4 to Wi-Fi, giving it a name and so on, etc.). When the D4 is fully charged, you'll be able to start cleaning.

Once the D4 is running the app allows you to create a schedule automatically or manually at any point. You can also use your voice to control it using Google Home or Amazon Alexa. If you own an Apple Watch you can start a cleaning session by tapping the wrist.

In our tests, this model cleaned well on both hard and carpeted flooring, picking up 91.3% of debris combined in serpentine paths. However it's not as efficient at edge and corner cleaning as the more expensive models. Its side sensors keep the D4 approximately 1.5 inches away from walls. And it lacks the side-sweeping brushes found on all but the cheapest robotic cleaners. Additionally, its elevated turret means it can't be used under furniture with low clearance. However, it does support virtual No-Go Lines so you can draw lines on your floor plan to tell the D4 not to travel there. The battery life of 75 minutes is also fairly average. However, it's a small price to pay for the ease of use this model offers.

3. iRobot 985

This makes it able to avoid wires and pet feces much better than other robotic vacuums we've reviewed, like the EcovacsN8Pro, Roborock S6MaxV and many more.

It is also the most powerful vacuum. It is able to clean up the dirt that has deeper particles or larger pet hairs, unlike other midrange models like the Roomba 960. This is because of the cleaner's bigger counter-rotating brushes and a stronger motor that has more suction power.

The Roomba 995 is also iRobot's least expensive vacuum with recharge and resume, however it doesn't come with the auto-empty feature that the I6+ and I7 offer. It also doesn't have iAdapt 2.0 navigation and the camera that the I7 uses to track objects and avoid obstacles. It isn't able to access features such as in-app containment or save maps.

The iRobot doesn't have mopping capabilities. Although this might not be an issue if you just need a top vacuum, it's an enormous disadvantage for anyone who wants to use hybrid robots.

It even has a low profile that allows it to get under tables and couches. It can also return to its dock to recharge whenever it's needed.

While it lacks some advanced features such as map-saving or selective room cleaning however, its navigation is superior to other robots. And it offers a larger dirt bin than the 690.

The iRobot Home application for iOS or Android lets you control the 960. It offers a variety of automation options, including the ability to create cleaning preferences, a schedule, trigger spot cleans and track the battery's condition. You can also check the location of the vacuum and receive notifications when its dirt compartment is full. The 960 is also compatible with voice commands using Alexa and Google Assistant. The iRobot Roomba 960 makes a ideal choice for the majority of homes. It's well-made, incurs fewer recurring costs and comes with a larger dirt compartment, and charges more quickly than the less expensive RoboVac 11. If you're looking for a cheaper alternative that can perform the same job on carpets and bare floors, the Neato Botvac is a good option.
