Three Wheeled Buggies

Three-wheeled buggies are great for strolling around the neighborhood or for jogging. Their compact design makes them easy to manoeuvre even in tight areas.

If you are looking for an easy ride in your baby, opt for models with 360deg front wheels that swivel. However, they are susceptible to punctures so be prepared with a repair kit.

Frame made of sturdy material

Figures have just been released revealing that the three wheel pushchair-wheeled buggie - that noughties symbol of more money than wisdom is on the verge of disappearing. They have been replaced by four-wheelers that are able to handle a wider variety of terrain, while still looking swanky and being easy to push.

The basic idea is that the bigger the wheels are, the easier it will be for your buggy to cope with rough ground and bumpy pavements. Having larger wheels both front and back makes it easier to manoeuvre and more stable when walking downhill or on difficult terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tried the buggy out with an infant and a 3-year-old child and found it extremely sturdy. It handled cobbles, grass and rough pavements as well as dirt tracks and kerbs. Kath said that "it is sturdy to push and is very stable when traversing difficult terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable, so require periodic pumping) have suspension built-in that was very comfortable for my kids.

Another thing to take into consideration is the seat size and shape. The seat should be big enough for your child to be comfortable and allow them to lie down. Some three-wheel buggies will have an option to lie flat completely while others will only allow a parent facing one.

Larger wheels

Larger wheels means that your buggy will have more stability on uneven terrain, which is ideal for off-road buggies. Additionally, they allow you to maneuver the pushchair through narrow spaces. Many three wheeled buggies feature the front wheels that swivel to help you navigate around corners with ease, whereas others are designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to improve the speed and stability with which they can be driven. This also helps if you bump into the roots of a tree or stray kerb as the front wheel will rise up to keep you from hitting it.

Many 3 wheeled pushchairs have air-filled tyres that allow them to handle a wide range of terrains. They are also more flexible than 4 wheelers. They're also lighter. However, they are prone to punctures so you'll need a repair kit, spare inner tube and pump in your bag.

The buggies also have suspension that according to Kath "smooths out bumps with great efficiency".

Buggies with bigger wheels can be quite wide and can be difficult to fit into narrow spaces. This is an issue if you plan to use it for jogging or you need to get through doorways that are narrow when out and about. Many models have compact folding options that allow you to remove the front wheels and store them more compactly.

Easy to maneuver

A three-wheeled buggy is more comfortable to drive with a child. They are designed to ensure that the front wheels turn on a dime, and are easy to move, making them ideal for terrains that are difficult, such as parks, cobblestones as well as bumpy roads and dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tried the 3 wheel stroller with bassinet-wheeler with her toddler, and she wrote: "The Terrain is a pleasure to drive in rough terrain. The swivel wheel front was particularly useful." I was also awed by the way it handled kerbs when using the hand-operated break. I found it extremely stable when driving downhill or on uneven ground."

The only downside to this great maneuverability, is that the larger wheels of a 3 wheel buggy can sometimes make it difficult to fit into tight spaces. This is something to keep in mind when your home is one of the cities. If this is a problem then a 4-wheeled buggy could be the better option for you.

Kath the MFM reviewer, also appreciated the space of this buggy. There's a nimble large basket that's surprisingly spacious for a buggy of this size. Plus, there's also an excellent pouch on the back of the unit, and two smaller mesh pockets beneath the hood where you can keep your phone and keys.
